About Wrench & Wallet
Welcome to Wrench & Wallet — a personal finance blog written in plain English, for people who didn’t grow up talking about index funds at the dinner table.
My name is Dan, I spent most of my life as and electrician and industrial mechanic (hence the “wrench” part) and later pivoted into finances and investing (the “wallet”)
I started this site because I was tired of financial advice that sounds like it was written by a lawyer for other lawyers. The truth is, most of what you need to know about money isn’t complicated — it’s just been made to sound that way.
Wrench & Wallet covers everything from crypto and investing to budgeting, credit, side hustles, and beyond. Whether you’re trying to understand what a blockchain actually is, figure out how to stop living paycheck to paycheck, or just make smarter decisions with the money you already have — you’re in the right place.
No jargon. No condescension. No get-rich-quick promises.
Just honest, practical information explained the way a knowledgeable friend would explain it — straight to the point, with real world examples, and a healthy dose of common sense.
A few things I believe in strongly:
You don’t need to be wealthy to make smart financial decisions. In fact, smart financial decisions are how you get there.
The best financial advice is the kind you actually understand. If you can’t explain it to someone else, you probably shouldn’t be acting on it.
Crypto is part of the financial picture — but it’s not the whole picture. It belongs in a balanced conversation about money alongside budgeting, investing, and building real long-term wealth.
Stick around, ask questions, and let’s figure this out together.
Dan
